Tot School: Community Worker (Helper) Theme
Another post that fell to the wayside with my second pregnancy…so mainly pictures here. 🙂 But, hopefully you’ll get some ideas and be inspired for your own look into it.
I put “helper” in the title to help for those searching for ideas, but I always said “worker”. I think it’s a misnomer to call people “helpers,” because their job involves helping people. Pretty much any job does, but nobody ever says a community helper is a cashier. Yes, firefighters help people, but they also get paid to do it. They’ve chosen it because they like the job, and they get paid to do what they like. As is the case for most of the typical “community helpers” that preschoolers study.
It has been so long ago, I don’t really remember everything we did! Here are some pictures of the activities we did, and a few of the people we visited.
“Clean” a tooth with a toothbrush and white paint
Some items from online and some from the Melissa and Doug Watercolor Book
Pretend play with hats and tools
Being a mom with her doll in a sling
We bought these people to play with, and she loved them! (Three years later, she still plays with them. : ) )
Our car got broken into + learning about workers = a visit to the police station
She went and visited her cousin who was a physical trainer at the time.
Our friend who came to help us plant a garden — three years later and nothing’s left! LOL! I blame the second pregnancy. 🙂
This was a really great game. She had lots of fun matching the pictures and her dolls to the words.
Here is my inspiration Pinterest board if you’d like more ideas for Community Helper/Workers (Toddler/Preschool/K) I also pinned all the great little videos I found online for this topic.
